It was not the most convincing of wins but Kings XI Punjab would be pleased nonetheless, with their 2-run victory against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Sunday. A statistical look at how the match was played out.

# Sunil Narine (5/19) has recorded his first five-wicket haul in Twenty20.

# Narine became the first Kolkata bowler to capture five wickets in an innings in the IPL, eclipsing Shoaib Akhtar's four for 11 against Delhi Daredevils at Kolkata on May 13, 2008.

# Narine's excellent figures are the best by a bowler against Punjab in the IPL.

# Narine became the third bowler to take five wickets in an innings against Punjab in the IPL, joining Munaf Patel - 5 for 21 for Mumbai Indians at Mohali on May 10, 2011 and Lakshmipathy Balaji - 5 for 24 for Chennai Super Kings at Chennai on May 10, 2008.

# Narine's bowling average of 14.00 in Twenty20 is quite impressive, claiming 28 wickets in 21 matches.

# Narine has received the Man of the Match award for the first time in the IPL.  Â

# Mandeep Singh (38) has posted his highest innings in the IPL, eclipsing the 34 against Rajasthan at Jaipur on April 6, 2012.

# Dimitri Mascarenhas has posted his tenth duck in Twenty20.

# David Hussey has taken his runs' tally to 4333 at an average of 31.62 in 175 matches - a record in Twenty20, overtaking Brad Hodge's aggregate of 4303 (ave.36.15) in 147 matches.

# Piyush Chawla (3/18) has taken his tally to 62 at an average of 24.00 in 59 matches.  Only Lasith Malinga (70), Munaf Patel (65), Rudra Pratap Singh (64) and Pragyan Ojha (63) have claimed more wickets than Chawla in the IPL overall.

Kings XI Punjab win by 2 runs

Absolute silence here at Eden Gardens, Kings XI had only 13 runs to defend with two overs left and they conceded just 10. Amazing bowling at the death from Praveen Kumar and Harmeet Singh. KKR looked like they were strolling to victory half way through this second innings, but Chawla turned the match with a decent two overs and KKR never recovered.

  • Gilchrist: "The guys fought well with the bat, but Narine was awesome for them. We were outstanding with the ball and Harmeet had it in him at the death with an incredible over. I missed a few for byes so I was very relieved to get the win."
  • Gambhir: "We should have finished the match off, but we kept losing wickets and putting pressure on ourselves. Restricting Kings XI to 134 was a fantastic effort from the bowlers. The wicket got a little slower in the second half and we couldn't get the job done."

Propelled by Rohit Sharma’s magnificent double-century, India marched to a 153-run win in Kolkata. While Eden Gardens celebrated 150 years, Rohit lit-up the stadium with a well paced 264 off 173 to make the occasion memorable. In doing so, he etched his name in the history books by posting the highest individual score in ODI cricket and became the only batsman to post two double hundreds in the 50-over format till date.
