Kolkata Knight Riders had a good homecoming on Friday, defeating Rajasthan Royals by ten wickets at the Eden Gardens. A look at the statistical highlights from the match.

# Shakib Al Hasan's figures of 3 for 17 are his best for Kolkata in the IPL.

# Shakib Al Hasan took his wickets' tally to 80 at an average of 18.38 in 60 matches in Twenty20.  His strike rate of 16.5 is excellent.

# With five wickets at 7.60 runs apiece in only two games, Shakib is the leading wicket-taker for Kolkata in the IPL 2012. His superb strike rate of 8.4 is the best for Kolkata.

# Rajasthan Royals (131 for five) have recorded their lowest total in the IPL 5. The said score is their first total of less than 150 in the present competition.

# Rahul Dravid's 28 off 27 balls is his highest in the present competition.

# Goswami and Shah were involved in a stand of 59 for the fourth wicket - Rajasthan's second highest against Kolkata, behind the 64 between Brad Hodge and Menaria at Jaipur on April 8, 2012.

So the Knight Riders are back on track with back to back wins after their poor start. Their bowling at the death put them in control at the break, all the batsmen chipped in to see them home in the last over. The Royals simply were 15/20 runs short and their last two overs in the first innings killed them. They had a few close decisions go against them in the seconds innings, just not their day.

  • Gambhir: “We always knew this was a 130/135 wicket, we had the batting and experience to chase it down. Shakib and Sunil bowled superbly at the end of the 1st innings and really turned it in our favour.”
  • Dravid: “We thought it would be a competitive total, we had to get wickets early and credit to them for putting in a good opening partnership. We got a decent start but Shakib bowled well in the middle and we had to rebuild. We have a lot of kids who are learning all the time so this experience will help them.”

Propelled by Rohit Sharma’s magnificent double-century, India marched to a 153-run win in Kolkata. While Eden Gardens celebrated 150 years, Rohit lit-up the stadium with a well paced 264 off 173 to make the occasion memorable.
