IPL 2012: Match 32, Kolkata Knight Riders v Deccan Chargers

Rain causes havoc and delays match 32 of the the Indian Premier League ( IPL) 2012 between The Kolkata Knight Riders and The Deccan Chargers held at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata on the 24th April 2012

The match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Deccan Chargers at the Eden Gardens was abandoned due to heavy showers here earlier in the evening.

The Chargers collect their first point of IPL 2012 since both teams got a point each for the game after it was called off. The crowds waited for the game to start despite thunder, lightning and strong winds. Although it stopped raining later, it was impossible to get a game because of water logging and puddles in the outfield. The ground staff worked relentlessly to clear the puddles and get the ground ready for the game, but their efforts were in vain.

Propelled by Rohit Sharma’s magnificent double-century, India marched to a 153-run win in Kolkata. While Eden Gardens celebrated 150 years, Rohit lit-up the stadium with a well paced 264 off 173 to make the occasion memorable. In doing so, he etched his name in the history books by posting the highest individual score in ODI cricket and became the only batsman to post two double hundreds in the 50-over format till date.
