England XI vs Mumbai A, Tour Match - Day 1 Report

Thanks to a well-crafted century by wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow, England XI managed 338/6 at the end of Day 1 of their three-day warm-up match against Mumbai A at the Dr D.Y. Patil Stadium here.
Upon winning the toss, England XI skipper Stuart Broad chose to take first strike. The visitors started off tentatively and lost opener Nick Compton (1) in the fifth over itself. At his departure, Jim Root was joined in the middle by Jonathan Trott. The duo compiled a 50-run partnership, before Trott (28) fell to Javed Khan. Shortly after that Ian bell (4), the new man was dismissed by Kshemal Waingankar with the score at 64/3. Suryakumar Yadav then struck by claiming the wicket of Root (28); at that point the visitors were struggling at 66/4.
However, Eoin Morgan and Bairstow put together a 156-run stand to get their team back in the fray. Shardul Thakur finally trapped Morgan (76) leg before wicket. The spinner was unbeaten on 59 runs when stumps were called; Broad (6*) was the other man in the middle at that point.
For Mumbai A, Khan and Waingankar picked up two wickets each, while Thakur and Yadav accounted for a scalp apiece.
