Five years into the Indian Premier League, Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday managed to finally earn a title shot in the Indian Premier League. A look at the statistical highlights from their 18-run win against Delhi Daredevils at Pune.

# Yusuf Pathan (40 not out off 21 balls) has emulated his highest score in the IPL 2012. Against Mumbai Indians, he had recorded an unbeaten 40 at Eden Gardens on May 12.

# Yusuf has got his 12th Man of the Match award, equalling Chris Gayle's record in the IPL. His tally of 14 such awards is the highest by an Indian player in Twenty20.

# Yusuf and Shukla were involved in a stand of 56 in only four overs for the fifth wicket - Kolkata's highest against Delhi in the IPL.

# Virender Sehwag took his run-aggregate to 494 at an average of 35.28 in 15 matches in the current edition of the IPL

# Sehwag's above tally is exceeded only by Gayle (733), Gambhir (588), Dhawan (569) and Rahane (560) in the IPL 2012.

# Kolkata Knight Riders have won five and lost four out of nine played against Delhi Daredevils in the IPL - winning % 55.55

# Kolkata Knight Riders have qualified for the IPL finals for the first time in five years.


# Mahela Jayawardene (40 off 33 balls) has top-scored for Delhi Daredevils.

# Gautam Gambhir (32 off 16 balls) took his runs' tally in the IPL to 2063 at an average of 33.81 in 71 matches, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 2036 at an average of 38.41 in 63 matches. Only Suresh Raina has made more runs than Gambhir - 2154 at an average of 33.65 in 78 matches in the IPL.

# Gambhir's aggregate of 588 at an average of 39.20 in 16 matches is the second highest in the IPL 5, next only to Chris Gayle's 733 (ave.61.08) in 15 matches.

# Gautam Gambhir and Brendon McCullum have managed 533 runs in partnerships for the first wicket at an average of 53.30 in ten innings in the IPL 5. Their aggregate includes a century partnership and four between 50-99.

# 15 run-outs have been effected by Delhi Daredevils in the present tournament - the most by a team in the IPL 5.

# Naman Ojha (17 matches) and Brendon McCullum (12 matches) are the top wicket-keepers with most dismissals in the IPL 5 - 14 each.

# Brendon McCullum became the second Kolkata wicketkeeper to effect four dismissals in an IPL game. Morne van Wyk was the first to achieve the distinction - against Bangalore at Kingsmead, Durban on April 29, 2009.

# Jayawardene and Ojha added 59 for the third wicket - Delhi's highest against Kolkata in the IPL, eclipsing the 46 between Jayawardene and Ross Taylor at Feroz Shah Kotla on May 7, 2012.

# Sunil Narine took 24 wickets at 11.95 runs apiece in 14 matches - the second highest tally in the IPL 5 behind the 25 (ave.18.12) by Morne Morkel in 16 matches.

  • Gambhir: “We always thought this was 140 wicket and when we got above that, and the way we did so was fantastic. My bowler's were also great today and a lot of credit needs to go to all of them, they have done us proud.”
  • Sehwag: “I think we didn't bat well because 160 is chaseable but we lost two early wickets, after that we couldn't recover. Aaron & Yadav have been bowling brilliantly so I couldn't take them out the team, it was a tough choice but I back my decision. We have one more opportunity so we will be giving more than 100% to make sure we are in the final.”

Propelled by Rohit Sharma’s magnificent double-century, India marched to a 153-run win in Kolkata.
